backend engineer

I build APIs and services that stay up and scale predictably.

Six years designing backend systems — from payment pipelines to internal platforms — with a focus on reliability, clean data models, and code the next engineer can actually read.

about

Systems, not just endpoints

I started out fixing slow SQL queries and ended up owning the services they belonged to. These days I work mostly on backend architecture — API design, data modeling, and the infrastructure that keeps everything running when traffic doesn't behave.

I care about boring reliability: predictable deploys, clear error messages, dashboards that tell you the truth at 3 AM. Outside of work I contribute to a couple of open-source tooling projects and write occasional notes on distributed systems.

Where I've worked

[0]
Senior Backend Engineer · Northwind Systems 2023 — Present
  • Redesigned the payments service, cutting p95 latency from 210ms to 40ms
  • Split a monolith into services, reducing average deploy time by 70%
  • Led on-call rotation; brought incident MTTR down from 45 to 12 minutes
GoPostgreSQLKafkaKubernetes
[1]
Backend Engineer · Fieldstone Labs 2021 — 2023
  • Built the internal billing API, handling 2M+ requests a day
  • Introduced automated integration tests, catching regressions before prod
  • Designed a rate-limiting middleware later adopted by six services
PythonFastAPIRedisDocker
[2]
Software Engineer, Backend · Ashgrove Digital 2019 — 2021
  • Built REST APIs for a logistics platform serving 50k+ daily users
  • Optimized slow queries, cutting average database load by 35%
  • Set up CI/CD pipelines, moving releases from weekly to daily
